I'm glad this tortoise has someone paying attention to his favorite things. I love the care that goes into noticing what an animal enjoys. Watching his human make room for his favorite activities also makes me realize how much trouble I have doing the same for myself. Between work, studying, and keeping the house from falling apart, I let my day fill up before I've even considered what I'd actually like to do with part of it.

I'm going to pay more attention to my own favorite things and make time for them, too. I hope you do the same. Actually, there's always room to do things you enjoy every day. I'm not talking about big things that would compromise your agenda. I'm talking about the small things. Play some music, cook something you love, read a few pages of a book even though you won't finish it today, take a short walk outside with your dog. Even a little time spent doing something you like has the power to change your day. Consider this baby tortoise's schedule a reminder that the small, pleasant activities also deserve a place in our schedules. Make room for them.

My point is that I don't need a whole free weekend to enjoy myself. I love when I have free weekends; of course I enjoy them too. But all I'm saying is that you don't necessarily have to look forward to the weekend to enjoy yourself. In my case, sometimes I'm happy with a little time to play music or listen to an album without doing three other things at the same time. I like the idea of giving an activity my full attention and really focusing on enjoying it.

During a busy week, I have to remember that “I'll do it when I have time” could mean anything. It could be three months from now. So that won't work. We have to make real time for things we enjoy. And yes, there is time for music, time for taking a walk just because it's nice outside, time for watching an episode of your series. You just have to make room for it.
And if this little tortoise ever starts offering painting lessons, count me in. I'd make time for that too.
